On Sunday 24th July, I had an afternoon walk at Coatham Wood near Long Newton. The warm afternoon sunshine was also enjoyed by the Butterflies, Moths and Dragonflies. The follwing species were recorded:
Butterflies: 12 Meadow Brown, 16 Large Skipper, 10 Large White, 8 Small Skipper, 1 Small White, 16 Small Tortoiseshell, 11 Small Heath, 1 Green-veined Butterfly and 1 Comma.
I put the trap out on Friday night for the Garden Moth Scheme and despite the threat of rain the temperature only dropped to 12.2C. Thirty-two species were recorded with four new species for the garden.
It is good to see the birds returning to our garden in numbers. Sadly we didn't have any birds breeding in our garden. However, adults have continued to visit the feeders for an easy meal whilst looking for live food for young birds.
